A soldier is ordered to watch over a gypsy, arrested after a fight in the tobacco factory where she works. But instead he falls for her seductive promises, helps her escape – and joins her in a life of crime.

Bizet’s Carmen is probably the world’s best known opera, and its marvellous Spanish-infused score is packed with familiar tunes. Even if you’ve never seen an opera before, you’ll instantly recognise Carmen’s sultry first solo and the irresistibly catchy Toreador song.
